Kayla Atkinson, soprano
$1000.00 Ruth Cuccia Memorial Scholarship
 
Kayla Atkinson, soprano, is a current student at El Camino College studying voice. She has been performing since a very young age and has always had a love for singing. One of her favorite roles to date was in the spring of 2016 when she performed as Cinderella in Into the Woods, where she was nominated for the Irene Ryan Awards. She has had the privilege to perform the national anthem for many school, sport, and memorial events, including El Camino’s graduation ceremony last year. In addition to all her performing accomplishments, Kayla has been on the Dean’s list for every semester during her time at ECC. She has just been accepted to Cal State Fullerton’s music program and will be attending there in the fall. She is honored to be a recipient of the Mu Phi Epsilon Scholarship and hopes to make everyone proud as she continues in her career. Soli Deo Gloria!

​Avery Jett, French horn
$750.00 Patrons Scholarship
​
Avery Jettis a French horn performance major at El Camino College. He has been playing the French horn for nearly ten years and can also sing and play mellophone, trumpet, and viola. Originally from Manhattan Beach, Avery hopes to remain in Los Angeles as a studio musician, citing his love for movie soundtracks and JohnWilliams as his reason why. After finishing his bachelor’s degree, Avery hopes to continue his education at the Colburn School or at USC. Avery has performed in the American Youth Symphony, has toured Paris, London, and China and has also had the pleasure of playing in venues like Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Nôtre Dame Cathedral, and the State Capitol. When he is not playing French horn, Avery is feeding his embarrassing obsession with Star Wars, watching movies or playing video games.

Hyeon (Shelley) A Park, piano

Hyeon (Shelley) A Park was born in Changwon, Korea and started playing the piano when she was 7 years old. She participated in various concerts and competitions during her elementary and junior high school days. She came to America as a high school student and continued to learn the piano at the Academy of Music at Alexander Hamilton Highschool. She has been working as a piano accompanist in church for over 10 years. She is currently studying piano at El Camino Community College.  She plans to transfer to a University to continue music study and to become an accomplished pianist and music teacher.

Jade Saffery, saxophone

Jade Saffery is a tenor saxophonist who studies jazz under Ann Patterson and Dr. Alan Chan at El Camino College. Winner of the Norma Kayser and Christopher J. Mello scholarship and featured young artist at the Washington Women in Jazz Festival, Jade hopes to continue her education and eventually become a college professor of music.

Giovanna Mera, guitar
$300.00 Memorial Scholarship

Giovanna Mera is enrolled at El Camino College in the Applied Music Program. In the 2018 Spring semester she is studying with; Dr. P. Schulz for Theory and Musicianship203A, Dr. W. Doyle for Music History 215B, Dr. J. Nachef for both Voice 1 as well as for the Concert Choir Ensemble, Dr. D. Teter for Applied Music, and Professor Jon Minei for Private Classical Guitar Lessons as well as for Guitar Ensemble. In the past, she has received both an achievement scholarship award from the Neptunian Woman’s Clubas well as a scholarship from Mu Phi Epsilon. She would like very much to be able to first graduate with an AA in Music, followed by a bachelor’s in performance for Classical Guitar, finished by a Masters/Ph.D. in Composition and Conducting.

Liana Wopschall, voice

Liana Wopschall is attending El Camino College as a music major. Her personal voice teacher is Ann Grennan, with whom she studied for more than two years. She also studied with Erin Wood through the Applied Music program at El Camino. Her vocal accomplishments include VOCE South Bay 1st place winner in the senior division, Certificate of Merit level 8, Certificate of Merit Panel finalist, second place in musical theatre category adult division for NATS-LA-SEP and honorable mention in classical category adult division, and Certificate of Honor for "outstanding musical performance at the Applied Music Juries" (in her first semester at El Camino's Applied Music program). Her musical aspirations for the future are to obtain a bachelor’s degree in music and to sing opera.
